The future of Christiania is laying in the hands of the inhabitants as it is. Never since the struggle about the Christiania area begun has the situation been that tense in the little village in the center of Copenhagen.
After being offered the possibility to run the Freetown as a fund financed through a donation of the Real Dania fund the former unity got split into yes and no groups. Certainly the purpose is the same, the preservation of Christiania as it is with its own infrastructure and the consent way of decision making. This most certainly does not mean to turn it into a museum  for the  aging hippie -generation that once created the place.
The  original dynamic of  Christianias growth and prosperity had been set to halt since part of the law about Christiania were effected and the  administration  of the area  was  given to  the SES ( the Palaces and Properties Agency, a part of  the Ministry of Finance). This governmental department  follows the plan they presented some years ago. This means any creative building activity can only happen with their permission.
According to this plan Christiania is divided into three areas. This point alone has already lead to various discussions in the community.
But then how far did the entire process about the future of Christiania moved this far. The anarchistic conservative part of the population still lay their trust into the legal system awaiting the the case coming at the High court by the end of this year. Others started to investigate the possibility of the fund persuaded by the possibilities that this option is giving for the best possible preservation of Christiania.

There are still many questions unanswered to either part in the discussion about the yes or no to the offer. Too many doubts about the quest of  the liberty that  the population  used to  take  for  the  satisfaction  of  the individual  as much as the community. The considered demands of the government are a big mouthful to swallow for the population and the hardest part of it is the understanding of the language from the authorities which is kind of far away from the daily slang in the life of the citizens. In this specific case about Christiania as a community just the understanding of the options that are in the fund model demand more or less an MA in sociology, politic, law and economy.
Considering the facts of reality there are only a handful of people who serious went into the process of investigating the options of the fund model. With the help of the legal advice from an Common meeting appointed lawyer this group is working on several calculations for a fund model that keeps as close as legally
possible to the Christiania we know this far in history. The negotiations brought until now some quite reasonable results but are still far from many citizens expectations to the previous liberty.
Due to the constant presence of authorities the trust to the system is on a low level in the silent majority of Christianias population. This is not just referring to the constant presence of police-force in the area it is also in consideration of the paper-war on creative activities of individuals in Christiania by the SES. This far Christiania only can hope that the SES keeps the truce as long as the negotiating process is going on until the end of June. Executing the result of the lost process and other orders can only end in devastating results for Christiania. The only ones who truly can be interested in this scenario are entrepreneurs speculating in the value of property in the center of Copenhagen or populist agitating politicians demanding the Christiania law executed to the point here and now. The reaction of the crowd to  this is not to tell. Christiania means a lot to many people and nobody is interested in loosing a  beautiful natural growing village with an environment unseen elsewhere in the center of capitals. Right now nobody can really tell what is going to be the future  of Christiania. A sure thing is that the SES has a plan and they are ready to execute it if the fund model does not  happen to be the choice of the Christianians. The SES stays as a housekeeper also in case of Christiania does win the process about the collective right about the use of the area.
In the coming month Christianias population is looking forward to a lot of common meetings to solve these final problems.
