Beer has been a food suplyment i many centuries. But of course it has also some other then healthy effects. This again is the question between use and abuse. In this page I will write a little about my activities around the topic beer. I am not just a critical beer consumer. I have also made brewing experiments with hemp-beer. With  our  Christiania beer-club we managed to produce some exquisit brews. I also introduce some of my favorites and where you might find them. SKÅL as we say in Denmark

One of the good things the Christian religion brought with its existence. The monks needed some nourishment in the fasting periods. So they invented fluid bread in the form of different kinds of beer.
Well experience showed me many times how spiritual one can get of a good beer
When I came to Denmark in 1978 I only found a very few brands of my favorite beverage.  But that wasn't the only  bad thing I met, the country didn't even have a proper draft beer culture as I was used to from Germany.
The available brews  in pubs and  bars  where  reduced to  the  taste  range of Denmark's major breweries Tuborg and Carlsberg.
Luckily this changed for the good as in the last years. After the founding of the danish beer-consumers association a real beer-boom hit this country.
 
I am member of Christianias local beer-club,"Ølklubben Sirius". The club is arranging entertaining evenings with guest speakers once in a while, where we learn about the history of the different beers.
The club is also supplying Christiania with quality draft beer for their parties. Some of the club members are into brewing our own, as much as we very much wish to establish a small brewery in Christiania.
There are in fact quite a few brew-masters who are waiting for this to support this project. They are very much willing to give us a helping hand to get it going. But so far it was not possible for us to find the space inside Christiania to start this project, and so all the brew we have made until now always had a funny story with it.
Like the name "Politistout" for, after my opinion,  the best stout ever brewed in this country.
With the brewmaster of Thisted bryghus  as a leader of the project the club had lend some place in another clubs room in the center of Christiania.  Due to that the process  of brewing takes some time  we started relative early  to set it all up.  In the  middle of all  the cooking  a  major police raid on "Pusherstreet"  was going  on.  Nobody could get in or  out  of the place.  Because of this disturbance  the time schedule of the brew got a little messed up. But still the result in the end was fabulous and harvested only positive critics from everybody who got to taste it.
Other test brews where made in an apartment on the 4th floor where one of the members turned his kitchen into a microbrewery.
With all this small scaled experimental brews that in general only got presented on the Copenhagen Beer-festival the brewing experience grew. Now the local beer-club is experimenting with a slight larger scale by lending a small brewery to make test-brews which get offered to the public in Christiania.
But still we would prefer to have our own little Christiania brewery to start a limited experimental production for the local market.    


The explosive development of the beer-market in Denmark the last couple of years increased the number of small so called microbreweries in the country. The quality of all these new beers is of course very different, but I must say it is only for the good that this koncurence is existing. Sometimes you can find something real extra good beer from one of the small breweries. I shall set an effort to complete the list in the web-link section




My daily favorite is the beer from "Thisted Bryghus"
my preferred is "Økologisk Classic", but "Økologisk Pilsner" does it as well.
This brewery offers a wide range of  very tasty specialities for  all kind of occasion. Since they started the production of  organic beers Christiania became a quite large customer of the brewery. Almost 5% of their annual turnover in 2007.
